Precast facade panels are load bearing
Precast reinforced concrete panels that also form load-bearing walls were used in construction of education and research center rising at New York University; wall panels form separate, self-supporting frame around building, interlocking with floors; shop-fabricated panels are 9 1/2 ft wide, 13 ft high and weigh approximately 11 tons each; pipe chases and heating, ventilating and airconditioning ducts are precast into panels.
