Plastic joints in reinforced concrete; review is made of stress-strain formulas derived by various authors according to elastic and plastic theories, and results of rupture tests are reported; author concludes that in order to ensure safe operation, concrete core of joints must be put into plastic state of stress by force whose magnitude is sufficiently large to avoid core decompression on side tensioned by joint rotation; simple dimensioning formulas are derived and conditions are established for fractureless performance of plastic joints.
