Effect of cement hydration on concrete form pressure
Pressure of concrete on forms as affected by cement hydration and individual concrete ingredients at 70 F was studied; effect of cement hydration was investigated by comparing behavior of concrete with and without water-reducing, set-retarding agent to nonhydrating mixture containing fly ash; oil filled pressure cells were adapted to measure pressure in 10×3×1 ft form; hydration of cement tended to limit form pressure under normal vibration used but did not prevent increase in pressure brought about by revibration until after 4 hr; effect of set-retarding agent on cement hydration did not significantly alter pressure.
