Anchorage of piers in masonry spillways

Approximate method provides estimate of pressures developed at planes of contact between pier and spillway masonry as function of anchorage depth, from which minimum depth necessary to limit maximum contact pressure to allowable value is obtained; principle of beam on elastic foundation is used; graphs are prepared to provide ready solution without necessity of solving series of equations involving iterative calculations.
