Effectiveness of discrete field technique as applied to resolving elastic stability problems is illustrated by using technique to determine theoretical load capacities of braced columns; unrestricted expressions of critical load capacities of such built up columns with various end conditions are given, which are found to be computationally superior to available approximate solutions; solutions developed are general in that they can be applied to investigate load capacities of similar multiredundant structural frames free of geometrical restrictions pertaining to ratio of height to width.
