First UK cellular cofferdam at leith harbour
Development project includes construction of new entrance lock and sealing dam which will create nontidal impounded harbor; to construct entrance lock in dry, cellular cofferdam was built; cells are spaced at 48.76 ft centers and joined together by circular arcs of 12.93 ft radius, so arranged that they intersect circular cells at right angles; special 'T'-shaped junction piles are used at these connections; total length of cofferdam is 2100 ft and consists of 43 cells.
