A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Many individuals who benefit most from buildings, transportation facilities, and water resources projects made possible by civil engineering technology are disturbed because many designs fail to properly incorporate cost and such intangible factors as ecology, esthetics, and culture; civil engineer can overcome resulting poor public image by basing his design on broader viewpoint; specific techniques include examining broader range of design alternatives, questioning design standards, keeping up with changing viewpoints and technology, becoming more willing to incorporate viewpoints of other disciplines, and developing communicative skills; each civil engineer shares burden of working to improve public image of profession.
