Firing deformation of ceramic bodies
Deformation of ceramic bodies during firing cycle is treated as problem of initial motion by viscous flow, under influence of gravity and internal forces arising from surface tension in glasses formed during firing: analogy with elastic problems is drawn, new definition of pyroplastic index proposed and relation between this index and change in porosity of medium deduced; theory predicts distorting effects for nonuniform temperature conditions in kiln during firing.
