Use of small specimens for measuring autoclave expansion of cements
Possibility of substituting 1/2 in. cubes for standard specimen size recommended by ASTM was explored; expansion measurements were made with precision micrometer; accuracy and reproducibility of these measurements on Portland cement were considered with reference to similar results obtained on same cement by standard ASTM procedure; effect of MgO on autoclave expansion of cements was assessed by using small specimens of experimental cements; in agreement with results of previous studies volume expansion of cements rises very sharply beyond 5% MgO.
