Groundwater level near lake, whose own level is falling, may be controlled by seepage flow from nearby canal; rise in water level due to this seepage into soil with shallow water depth was studied; two seepage models were analyzed by conformal mapping and combined to yield method for estimating free surface and rate of recharge; method consists in calculating elevation of characteristic point on water curtain; rise of free water level near canal was found to be approximately proportional to rate of recharge.
