Caisson sinking technique minimises friction
New technique consists of minimizing skin friction with bentonite; complete caisson is built, in one or more stages, above ground level with reinforced concrete toe designed to suit underlying strata and particular structure; rebate is provided in toe to allow for thin skin of bentonite, which lubricates outside of caisson to overcome ground friction on periphery; thickness of bentonite skin varies from 1 to 7 in.
