Seismic response of torsionally unbalanced buildings
Problem of determining response of multistoried torsionally unbalanced buildings to seismic forces is complicated by fact that recognition of asymmetry implies at once increase in number of degrees of freedom of system, and natural modes of new system may differ appreciably from those of old; secondly, practice of estimating magnitude of additional shears acting on each of resisting elements from comparison of their cantilever stiffness at each floor is not always justifiable; in this paper method of modal anaylsis suitable for buildings which exhibit torsional unbalance is presented.
