Concrete frame is made "flexible" to absorb earthquake loads
Nature of earthquakes and structural approaches for resisting their effects in buildings are reviewed in connection with design for 21-story concrete frame for new Sheraton Universal Hotel under construction in Los Angeles, Calif; structure is reported to be first high-rise building over 160 ft to be designed and built in concrete based on flexible, shock-absorbing, ductile-frame concept, under new provisions of Los Angeles Building Code.
