Capacity of buildings to withstand earthquakes -- Adequacy assessment
Paper suggests method by which different types of buildings can be rapidly and conveniently graded for their capacity to withstand earthquakes; various factors that figure in such grading are discussed and manner in which each factor can be valued is explained; modification of total value thus obtained to allow for "correction adjustments" is then explained; net value is rating of building and this rating is indicative of its capacity to withstand future earthquakes; application of proposed method to two actual buildings is illustrated and brief mention is made of some methods by which rating of existing building can be improved.
