A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
French achievements in steel bridge engineering; development of modern steel bridge in France went parallel with development of new steels which enabled construction of totally welded bridges with orthotropic decks; improvements which still are to be made in design of this and other types of steel bridges are discussed; in connection with characteristics of steels recently developed for welded bridges, need is indicated of relaxing certain unnecessarily strict standards and regulations.
