Elevated railway structures with wall piers
Design and construction of railroad bridges on Sasaguri line which runs along narrow valley of Tatara River and has 28 bridges with total length of 1.4 km; bridges are rigid frame type which has beams of great depth and relatively thin wall piers with large stiffness ratio; relatively long span is used; type in which horizontal force in longitudinal direction of track was concentrated to bear on abutments was adopted for bridges whose overall length is relatively short; round cross-sectional shape was adopted for bases of wall piers in flowing water.
