Austrian bridge builders put all they've got into one job
Austria's 5700-ft Lueg Bridge features combination of prestressed concrete box girder and steel girder designs; most of partly curved structure is made up of prefabricated concrete panels integrated with cast-in-place concrete; cross-section of box girders resembles inverted trapezoids; each has two, 2-ft 7 1/2-in.×7-ft cast-in-place girders spaced 20-ft on center, connected by prefabricated bottom panel; trapezoidal box-sections are supported on 23-ft wide, hollow hexagonal columns, which vary in wall thickness from 5 to 7 ft depending on their heights; span between each of 43 columns supporting box-sections is 117 1/2 ft.
