Influence of diaphragms on behaviour of multi-box concrete bridge girders
Deflections of multi-box girders are shown to be reasonably predicted by orthotropic plate analysis even when very few diaphragms are present, provided appropriately reduced values of flexural and torsional stiffness are used; In boxes with relatively flexible slabs, tests show that additional local deflections occur under concentrated loads; method of analysis was developed to predict these deflections; criteria for spacing of diaphragms are proposed.
