Static behavior of composite beams with variable load position
Results of static tests of two nearly identical simple span composite steel-concrete beams are presented; each beam had span of 25 ft and consisted of 60-in. wide by 6-in. reinforced concrete slab connected to 21WF62 A36 steel beam with 3/4 in. diam by 4-in. high headed steel stud shear connectors; it is concluded that although considerable inelastic shear deformations of studs will occur in shorter shear span as load moves across beam, slip at ends of beam will be below slip at which stud shear failures could be expected; tests indicate that flexural capacity of sections with inadequate shear connection will be sufficient to allow ultimate load to pass across beam.
