Soil mechanics in road and aerodrome construction
Brief survey of nature of soil and its mechanical properties; methods used for site exploration ("soil surveys"); analysis is made of bearing capacity of soils under both stationary and moving airplane wheels; on subject of drainage reference is confined mainly to modern American practice in which attempt has been made to relate drainage provided to nature of soil; problems involved in embankment construction are also reviewed. (see also - (discussion) in Supp to v 18 n 8 Oct 1942 p 506-21)
