Statistics of relative cost of timber used in South African mines, at 5-yr intervals, from 1925; causes of timber decay; to preserve timber against fungal and insect attack, preservative is applied which is poisonous or repellent to these organisms; preservative used by mining industry is mixture of zinc sulphate and triolith; method of treating timber; decay of fabrics; preservation.
