Design of sign letter sizes
Method described for determining necessary letter size for effective highway sign design in terms of warning time, warning distance, and 90% design speed; increased warning distance necessary at higher speeds provided through use of driver warning time as basic consideration; appropriate braking distances have been introduced where necessary; table furnishes values for convenient computation of letter height needed, and simplified outline of procedure is given. (See also - (discussion) n 5 May p 839-40, n 6 June p 1073-4 and n 9 Nov p 1675)
