Extinction and prevention of colliery spoil-heap fires: Report of no. 3 Sub-committee of Yorkshire Advisory Committee on Mining Research, and Spoil-Heap Fires at Airedale Collieries
Preliminary investigations; spoil heaps selected for special observations; steps taken to extinguish fire and to prevent spreading; means adopted was to inject mixture of water and shale dust by compressed air, thereby making whole mass solid and so preventing admission of air.
