Thin shell construction of "Fronton Recoletos" at Madrid
Shell is formed of two juxtaposed cylindrical segments with intersecting generatrices without buttressing girder; absence of such girder improves appearance of hall and simplifies construction, but whole of bending moment has to be carried by shell itself, giving rise to heavy stresses in portions close to intersection.
