A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Procedure used to determine preliminary and final designs presented; structure differs from usual tied arch in that ratio of moment of inertia of tie girder to that of arch rib is approximately 13 to 1; with these relative physical properties, total bending moment taken by rib and girder together is divided between these two elements, major part being resisted by girder. (See also - discussion v 68 n 4 Apr. 1942 p 593-5, n 5 May p 845-53, n 6 June p 1034-6, n 7 Sept p 1168-70, n 8 Oct p 1411-2 and n 9 Nov p 1617-8)
