Description of bridge, south side of which collapsed in Aug 1907, when it was more than half completed; 75 men engaged upon it lost their lives; new construction was reaching its final stages when, in Sept 1916, suspended span, while being hoisted into position, slipped from its lifting tackle and fell into river with loss of 13 lives; original plan was for \ill\antilever bridge with curved lower chords; history of existing bridge which illustrates manner in which lessons taught by disaster to first bridge were learned and applied; bridge is cantilever design with straight top and bottom chords for cantilever and anchor arms; history of second bridge is not story of disaster but of fully merited success; when accident to suspended span occurred on Sept 11 1916, no one hesitated about completing bridge in manner originally planned.
