Talow Tunnel is presently longest tunnel in Iran; its length is 9577 m or nearly 6 mi; tunnel was excavated to horseshoe shape 10 ft high and wide; tunnel driving procedures are described; two types of steel arch were used for supporting ground; specified cube strengths were 155 kg/sq cm at seven days and 233 kg/sq cm at 28 days for tunnel lining.
