Vehicular tunnel under Old Port in Marseilles
Underwater tunnel consists of two one-way tubes of respective lengths of 580 m and 593 m; two-lane roadways are 7 m wide; gradients do not exceed 3.79% except 330 m long section with 5% gradient; each tube consists of two rows of prefabricated caissons, 45.42 m long, 14.60 m wide, 7.20 m high, weighing 462 tons each, which were submerged in dredged excavation; ends of each caisson rest on prefabricated box-shaped supports; continuity between caissons is assured by rubber joint lined with sheet metal; tunnel ventilation and lighting are briefly described.
