Driving of pressure tunnel of Mont-Cenis hydroelectric power development
17,849 m long tunnel designed for 51 cu m/sec flow rate will receive concrete lining of circular profile with diameter ranging from 4.20 to 4.50 m; heading work was made difficult by geological conditions and several instances of underground water inrush requiring rock consolidation by means of injections and extensive drainage; mechanical equipment and techniques used in all construction stages are described in detail.
