Dimensional accuracy of tubes rolled on continuous mandrel mill
Suitable speed schedules, optimum rigidity characteristics of motors for given type of drive, and appropriate alterations in roll pass design, have considerably reduced fluctuations of diameter along length of tube rolled on continuous mandrel mill; with increasing wall thickness, such fluctuations decrease; considerable overall difference in wall thickness, amounting to as much as 36% in thin-walled tubes, is due mainly to significant and uneven wear of mandrels. (see also English translation in Stal in English n 3 Mar 1968 p 238-42)
