Similitude requirements for structural models
Similitude for model design involves requirements on geometry, materials properties, loading intensities and placements, and testing environment; interpretation of model response requires relations for such quantities as strain, displacement, stress or load, temperature, and vibrational frequency; similitude relations will be presented for models subject to static, live and dead, thermal, and dynamic load types; methods include utilization of known structural theory, dimensional analysis or use of Pi Theorem, and statistical approaches; classification of models -- true, adequate, and distorted.
