Stiffening effect of braces in frame
In calculating spring factor for braced frame, conventional method is to assume that braces undergo axial deformations only and act in parallel with skeleton frame; for verification of analytical results, two bay -- two story steel model was so fabricated that various combinations of bays, stories and braces could be obtained; stiffness contribution of braces was estimated by deducting stiffness matrix of skeleton frame from stiffness matrix of braced frame; it was found that analytic computation of spring factor is not valid for all locations of braces.
