A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Experimental study was carried out for purpose of studying restoring force characteristics, ductility factor and spring constant of reinforced concrete portal frames varying compression stress of axial thrust in column from 0 to 120 kg/sq cm; when axial thrust in column is small, failure of test pieces are caused by bending; with increasing axial thrust failures are caused by shearing and crushing of concrete; restoring force vs displacement curve changes from bilinear type to double spindle type with increasing axial thrust in column.
