Analysis of pierced shear walls
Continuous connection method assumes that discrete system of connections, formed by lintel beams or floor slabs, may be replaced by equivalent continuous medium; by assuming that all cross-beams have point of contraflexure at midspan, behavior of system may be expressed as single second-order differential equation for closed solution; technique is extended to include shearing deformations of walls; by comparing theoretical values of both stresses and deflections with tests on model walls perforated with bands of openings, it is shown that influence of shearing deformations in walls is less than that of flexibility of joints between walls and connecting beams.
