First section of new Leeds urban highway consists of terminal roundabout, two sections of road in open cuttings with 1200-ft tunnel between, and three complex junctions; lighting of complex junctions was most difficult problem; 82-ft Uddeholm masts, each with four cutoff lanterns with Osram 1000 w MBF/U lamps, spaced at about 220 ft and giving minimum illumination at ground-level of about 2 lumen/sq ft were used; also described are lighting for junction for city-center traffic in Stuttgart, West Germany, Tyne Tunnel, M4 Tunnel, Monmouth, and Blackwall Tunnel, London.
