Economic study of braced multi-story steel frame
Design and cost analysis of braced steel frame with both rigid and simple framing is described to determine how much economy of using continuous girders is offset by added cost of heavier columns and moment connections required for girders; design program is separated into design of braced bay resisting no lateral forces and design of special wind bent; A36 steel is used for girders; columns are designed considering both A36 steel and A440 or A441 steels; composite design is considered as alternate in design of girders; slab thickness of 4 1/2 in. is used for both alternates.
