Electroslag melting of 5,5- to 12-ton ingots of high-temperature steel for steam supply pipes to high-powered turbines
Remelting technique was developed for making chromium steel suitable for components in steam supply systems of steam turbines; slag is deoxidized with aluminum during remelting; this makes it anisotropic as regards its properties, less silicon is lost, its oxygen content is reduced, and its endurance limit improved.
