Stress controlled apparatus for triaxial testing
Testing machine in which rate of true stress can be controlled manually or automatically is described; pneumatic analog computer continuously calculates cross section of test specimen and provides loading unit with pressure such that force applied produces given axial stress; whole test, up to fracture, is entirely automated; wide range of stress paths is made possible by this machine; tests on saturated kaolinite serve to illustrate some capabilities as well as to point out some problems that this machine may help investigate.
