Pore pressures, consolidation, and electrokinetics
Pore-water pressures that develop when electric field is introduced into soil mass are shown to depend on voltage distribution and ratio of electrokinetic and hydraulic permeabilities of soil; time necessary for development of these pore-water pressures is shown to be predictable by use of theory of consolidation; rate of pore-pressure development is dependent on hydraulic permeability of soil and not on its electrokinetic permeability; secondary effects are associated with alterations in soil pH and conductivity; laboratory and field test data are presented to substantiate arguments presented.
