Swelling of montmorillonitic clay at elevated temperatures
Study of actual and predicted behavior of clay using diffuse ion-layer theory; measurements of swelling pressure at constant volume and volume changes at constant swelling pressures were made on specially prepared samples at two salt concentrations in pore fluid, and in temperature range of from 25 to 45 C; it is shown that qualitative predictions made for volume change and swelling pressure under elevated temperatures, using diffuse ion-layer theory, are viable.
