Distribution of pressure around buried pipe; present methods dangerously underestimate pressure involved; in initial period of life of pipe line, it is contended that pressures on its sides can reach values approaching passive level and those over its crown will be higher than those due to simple overburden; it is further suggested that as time progresses, lateral pressures are reduced to values commensurate with earth pressure in "at-rest" condition, while vertical pressures tend toward simple overburden level.
