Observations on shear testing of indurated fissured clays
Details are given of some recent experiences with shear strength tests on indurated fissured clays from interior plateau region of Southern Africa; techniques developed to facilitate laboratory and field shear strength measurements on these soils are described; small scale field and laboratory shear strength measurements are compared with strengths developed in four large scale slope failures; from this comparison relative accuracy of various methods of measurement may be assessed.
