Microstructural observations on shear zones from slips in natural clays
Details of thin sections obtained from shear zones of five slips are presented; structures induced by movement depend upon composition of material, its consistency and magnitude of displacement involved; displacement shears, Riedel shears and induced preferred orientation have all been observed although not in each case; semiquantitative scale for determination of preferred orientation from aggregate birefringence measurements is also given.
