Finite-element method for problems in soil mechanics
Finite-element method is applied to plane-strain or axially symmetric problems in soil mechanics; problems in linear media, in which material is homogeneous and isotropic, have been solved using above method and results agreed with closed-form solutions; finite-element method was then extended to nonlinear problems using pseudoelastic constants; these constants were selected such that stress in finite-element for given strain was same as stress corresponding to some strain in continuum; nonlinear problems in plane-strain and axially symmetric cases were solved and compared with experimental results; good agreement was observed between computer solution and experimental results.
