Determination of shear strength of coarse-grained rock fill by means of large-scale test
Report describes large-scale test for determination of shear strength of non-cohesive, coarse-grained rock fill (trap sandstone); results of this investigation are used to provide basis for construction of power station building of unusual size and design features; earth fill used for this large-scale test had diameter of 25 m and height of 3.5 m; pressure body, composed of four circular segments, was 3 m high; its diameter was 5.1 m; in performing test four segments were expanded and/or forced apart; some data and results obtained from other large-scale tests have been summarized.
