New method for prestressing circular concrete structures
Eight circular silos 36 ft in diam and 72.5 ft high at Oro Grande, Calif, cement plant, built to increase cement storage capacity by 120,000 barrels, are of prestressed concrete; silo walls are from 9 to 7 in. thick; illustrated description of prestressing; wire was of high carbon steel having ultimate tensile strength of about 222,000 psi and "proof stress" of 180,000 psi.
