Lowering weir, use of which has been advocated as best means of dealing with floating ice, has certain great disadvantages; it is claimed that these are avoided by roof weir installed at Strubklamm and some other works; weir is in two parts; these, together with an overlapping ridge piece, can be raised hydraulically so as to form a rooflike ridge at desired height, depending on fulness of river.
