Comparative biological waste treatment design
Series of equations are presented which can be employed for design of most aerobic biological treatment processes including activated sludge, aerated lagoons, and extended aeration; these relationships permit estimation of required aeration volume, sludge yields and oxygen requirements; for any particular wastewater, comparative design can be developed from relatively limited experimental data; procedures are illustrated by design example and summary of pertinent design parameters for each aerobic biological treatment process.
