Design development of roof from simple circular arches of 340 ft-span to double curved concrete shell of 235 ft-span held between fanned raking struts providing total span between abutments of 324 ft; reference is made to secondary stresses due to shortening, and various contributing factors are discussed in detail together with reasons for adopting post-tensioning in foundation ties and in roof; site works are described with emphasis placed on somewhat unusual problems and difficulties of post-tensioning operations in stressing and grouting 380 ft-long tie beams and 230 ft-long curved roof tendons.
