Methods of improving metal quality at Kuznetsk metallurgical combine
Investigations were undertaken to improve surface quality of rolled products, particularly rail sections; statistical processing of data combined with metallographic examination of structures associated with hairline cracks, showed that ingot and billet surface defects were primarily of steelmaking origin; improved techniques included notching billet in special roll pass, presenting billet diagonally for rolling, and rolling in fluted rolls.
